Tesco plans to create over 20,000 new jobs over the next two years in the UK, as part of its strategy to handle a drop in the country's retail market share.
According to market research by Kantar WorldPanel, the UK-based supermarket chain's market share fell 0.6% year on year to 29.7% in the 12 weeks to 19 February, reported Reuters.
Tesco plans to expand staff by around 7% of current UK staff, partly through new outlet openings and upgrades to existing outlets, reported The Wall Street Journal.
Tesco UK chief executive Richard Brasher said they will invest in more staff on the sales floor at busy times, (provide) greater expertise and help in the crucial areas of fresh food, and enhanced quality and service across our stores at all times, reported the news agency.
Tesco currently employs over 290,000 employees.
