Hofstra University has hired Jeffrey A. Hathaway, the former director of athletics for the University of Connecticut and the outgoing chairman of the NCAA Division I men?s basketball committee, as its new vice president and director of athletics.
Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz said Hathaway has succeeded on the playing field, in the classroom, with donors and the media.
Hostra said he guided the University of Connecticut?s sports programs for eight years as director of athletics from 2003 to 2011 during a career that spanned 20 years at the school.
?Jeff?s focus on excellence, ethics, leadership and academics will allow the Hofstra Pride athletics program to move to the next level of excellence,? Rabinowitz said. ?His tenure at the University of Connecticut was one of unprecedented growth, and under his leadership, we look forward to ushering in a new era of Hofstra Pride athletic success.?
Hathaway said his ?focus will be on the academic achievement of our student-athletes and providing them the opportunity to participate and achieve in their academic and athletic endeavors.? He is signing a 5-year contract with Hofstra, starting in June.
Eastman & Beaudine assisted in the search that led to the Hathaway?s selection. Acting Athletic Director Danny McCabe will remain the program?s executive associate director of athletics.
Before taking the helm at UConn?s athletic program, Hathaway served as executive associate director of athletics at the school from 1990-2001. He served as athletic director at Colorado State University from 2001 to 2003, before returning to lead UConn?s athletic program.
