Tips On How To Correctly Compare Electricity Companies

With regards to household solutions, one important thing that should probably get into a home owner?s thoughts is electrical energy. That is fairly expected because many home owners often find themselves struggling in terms of paying their bills. This kind of utility has the tendency to increase each and every month which understandably causes a lot of headaches for many home owners. Fortunately in some states, the energy market is deregulated which means that you always have the option of choosing a specific provider and package instead of being forced to subscribe to a certain company. This is great for property owners who are looking to find an organization that suits their requirements and needs. If you are at present not happy with your provider, then maybe it?s high time that you switch to some other supplier. Who knows, maybe by doing so you can finally resolve your dilemmas regarding power bill payments? But in this case, you have to make sure that you choose the best company there is. Fortunately, it is now possible to quickly compare electricity companies.

So what is the simplest way so you can do a suitable electricity comparison? Well, probably the most accessible selection for you is to go to the online world and locate sites which will allow you to compare power firms locally. A quick Google query should yield some relevant results as long as your enter ?electricity comparison? jointly with your location and zip code. By doing this, you ought to have a bird?s-eye view of all the firms that operate within your location.

Go on and catalogue all of the providers in your town; the more selections you possess, the greater your odds to locate a service that fits your needs and requirements best. After you have made the list, spend some time to visit each company and determine their rates and services. Thankfully, the majority of websites could make this approach much easier because they keep a web database of firms together with their rates. Once you are finished, do a comparison of the firms and you will be capable of condensing your alternatives.

After that, it will all come down to knowing each of the company?s contract length and terms for termination. In this case, review what you actually want. Some businesses have early termination fees while others don?t. Also be sure you understand how these firms charge their customers; is it fixed, variable or indexed? With the solution to compare electricity, it will allow you to develop a more knowledgeable conclusion in relation to finding the ideal company with respect to your needs.

Obama gets personal: 'Know what it?s like to have a tough time?

President Barack Obama in Cleveland, Ohio. (Chris Moody/Yahoo! News)

CLEVELAND, Ohio?President Barack Obama's voice sounded coarse and tired when he delivered the final speech of a cross-country tour that had taken him to eight states in three days. About 12,000 supporters were waiting on the airport tarmac here when Air Force One landed and rolled behind the stage. With the music of U2 blaring into the warm autumn night, Obama hustled down the stairs from the plane and jogged toward the lectern and teleprompters awaiting him.

The message he delivered along the banks of Lake Erie was the same one he preached previously that day in Virginia, and before that in Florida, Iowa and Colorado. He spoke about women's health, promoted his agenda to increase federal spending on domestic programs paid for by higher taxes on upper-income families, and he accused his opponent Mitt Romney of favoring the wealthy over the middle class. He gave his standard line about what he calls "Romnesia" and implored the crowd to vote?preferably before Election Day.

But before Obama reached the the part of his speech at the end when he usually calls on the audience to share his message with their neighbors, the president paused. His tone changed. His voice, hoarse from three days of rallies and an almost sleepless night, quieted.

"Look, Ohio, I know we've been through tough times," Obama said. "Every day I think about everybody out there across the country who's still looking for a job...whose homes may be still under water or at risk of foreclosure. The folks out there who at the end of the month are sitting at the kitchen table trying to figure out, How am I going to make all these bills? Michelle and I understand it, because we know what it's like to have a tough time sometimes."

The message was meant for the entire nation, but was directed to the inhabitants of the city in front of him, a place still struggling with an unemployment rate above nine percent. Other parts of the state have fared better since the end of the recession, although Ohio faced periods of statewide joblessness of above 10.5 percent during Obama's first term.

Since those dark days, parts of Ohio have seen a resurgence, and in a state where one in eight jobs relies on the auto industry, Obama's early support of a federal bailout for General Motors and Chrysler provides him leverage. It also offers an opening to attack Romney, who supported a plan that would have withheld guaranteed federal loans to the embattled companies until they agreed to undergo a managed bankruptcy.

"I bet on American workers. I bet on American manufacturing," Obama shouted over the noise of the crowd. "And I would do it again, because that bet always pays off."

Obama's post-debate tour had taken him to Florida, Colorado, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, California, Illinois and Nevada, mostly states where victory is not yet secure for either candidate but are battlegrounds that will determine the outcome of the race.

The driving theme of this trip, which Obama dubbed a 48-hour marathon extravaganza, targeted these key states, all of which allow early voting. At every stop along Obama's tour, supporters were encouraged to vote early so they could spend Election Day focusing their efforts on bringing others to the polls. (Also, history has shown that Democrats are more likely to vote in larger numbers than Republicans if given more than a single day to cast a ballot.) In Dayton, Ohio, where Obama ralliedon? Tuesday, the campaign hung a white, all-caps sign that read simply, "Vote Early."

Obama campaign officials are placing a special emphasis on getting minorities to vote before Election Day, a strategy to secure more votes among overwhelmingly Democratic groups. The campaign is banking on the early vote to give them a head start, and officials predict more Democrats will come out this time than four years ago.

"We are going to enter the election with larger margins than we did in 2008," White House senior adviser David Plouffe said during one of the many bus rides on the trip.

While Obama finished his tour on a personal note in Cleveland, his speeches aimed to draw sharp contrasts with Romney. At times it seemed he was talking more about Romney than his own vision for the future, although Obama always took time to share the blueprint for what he planned to do in his second term. The campaign distributed a 19-page magazine-style booklet that described the direction Obama planned to take the country if re-elected, a publication he spoke about at every rally this week.

But it was while discussing Romney that Obama's message seemed to resonate most. With mere days before the end of the campaign, Obama sharpened his attacks on the former Massachusetts governor, pivoting from describing the differences of policy to attacking his integrity. Obama expanded on his light-hearted use of the phrase "Romnesia" this week to say, bluntly, that Romney was not only a man with whom he disagreed politically, but also one who could not be trusted.

"We joke about Romnesia. But it's not funny," Obama said in Cleveland. "Because it speaks to something serious. It has to do with trust. There's no more serious issue in a presidential campaign than trust. Trust matters."

When he did speak about policy, Obama sought to tie Romney with Senate candidates like Todd Akin in Missouri and Richard Mourdock in Indiana, socially conservative Republicans who believe abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape. The Obama campaign joined Democrats in seizing on comments made by Mourdock in which he called a child conceived from a rape "something God intended to happen." Obama began alluding to Mourdock's comments Thursday morning in Tampa, Florida.

"I don't think any politician in Washington, most of whom are male, should be making health care decisions for women," Obama said in Tampa, warning that Romney would "turn back the clock 50 years for women." Later that day, Obama's official Twitter account posted a series of tweets that focused exclusively on the topic, using the word "rape" six times in the span of about half an hour. Earlier this month, the official campaign Tumblr page declared that women's "lady parts" were at stake in the election. (The post was later removed after being heavily criticized.)

The aggressive effort to steer women away from Republicans is a calculated one, since Democrats see female voters as a primary component to their victory strategy. According to Obama campaign data, there are more female undecided voters than males, and it is independents both campaigns are fighting for.

"The more we're talking about women's issues, women's health care, the differences between the candidates, the better it is for us," Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. "We feel it's a winning issue."

As the final week of the campaign approaches, polls suggest Romney is closing the gap with female voters, although Obama strategists write off the data as sloppy polling. White House spokesman Dan Pfeiffer on Thursday said some polls, even those sponsored by national news outlets, are "worth putting in the waste bin."

Still, it is hard to deny there does appear to be a growing momentum of support for Romney, even though his path to the 270 Electoral College votes is not nearly as clear as Obama's. To win, he will need to secure Florida, Ohio and Virginia, and then other battleground states.

The state of the map is much friendlier to the president, but as his tumultuous campaign schedule suggests, his campaign is taking nothing for granted.

U.S. looks to old Arctic ship logs for climate change clues

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A project to help track Arctic climate change using volunteers to transcribe U.S. ship logs online was launched on Wednesday by the National Archives and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Using citizen scientists to transcribe thousands of pages of logbooks from Navy, Coast Guard and other ships from 1850 to World War Two will fill a big data gap, NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco said.

Scientists in recent decades have gotten weather data from satellites and ground observations, and such tools as ice samples show ancient patterns, she said. But the archived logs could establish a baseline of historical weather data.

"Naval and Coast Guard records are an invaluable window into the past which will let us know what it was like then," she told Reuters after a news conference.

NOAA scientists have said that the Arctic is undergoing dramatic change as world temperatures climb. Arctic sea ice shrank to a record low of 1.32 million square miles (3.41 million square kilometers) by mid-September.

Project organizers, which include science web portal Zooniverse, hope to enlist thousands of volunteers to transcribe scanned pages from logbooks. The pages will be loaded onto Old Weather, an online weather data project (www.oldweather.org).

Information also could be used by scientists in other fields, as well as historians and genealogists, organizers said. Navy logs carried weather observations 24 times a day.

Mark Mollan, a reference archivist and a project organizer, said the National Archives had 1,000 boxes of Arctic ship logs. Each page put online will be transcribed three times to eliminate errors, he said.

In the first Old Weather project, started in 2010, 16,400 volunteers have transcribed 1.6 million weather observations from British Navy ship logs.

Four bulky logbooks, all with Arctic observations in neat 19th century handwriting, were displayed at the news conference.

The logs included one from the doomed 1879 Arctic voyage of the Jeannette, a U.S. Navy ship that sank after being trapped in ice off Russia. The commander starved to death and 18 other expedition members died.

A look at recent tech-industry earnings

Technology companies have begun releasing their earnings reports for the latest quarter. The reports come as consumers shift their spending toward tablets and a weak global economy curbs corporate spending on computers. They also come as Microsoft prepares to release a new version of Windows on Friday. Here is a summary of recent earnings and reports for selected technology companies and what they reveal about the state of spending and the overall economy.

? Oct. 5: Samsung Electronics Co. forecast another record quarterly operating profit, likely driven by strong sales of high-end smartphones that offset weak semiconductor orders. Samsung estimated that its July-September operating income nearly doubled to 8.1 trillion won ($7.3 billion) from 4.25 trillion won a year earlier. The result was better than the market consensus of 7.6 trillion won. Full results are expected Oct. 26.

? Oct. 16: Intel Corp., the world's largest chipmaker, says net income fell 14 percent from last year in the latest quarter, and it's looking at tough conditions in the new quarter. Intel blames a difficult global economy for declining sales, but analysts believe a shift in spending from PCs to tablets and smartphones may be contributing.

IBM Corp. says revenue slipped below Wall Street's expectations in the third quarter as the technology company dealt with jittery customers and a weakening euro that undercut its results. Despite the problems posed by the wobbly economy, IBM's earnings held steady.

? Oct. 17: eBay Inc. says its third-quarter net income grew 22 percent, helped by higher revenue at its PayPal payments service and the marketplaces business that includes eBay.com.

? Oct. 18: Google Inc. reports earnings and revenue that fell well below analyst projections. Most of Google's third-quarter headaches were concentrated in Motorola Mobility, the troubled cellphone maker that the company bought for $12.4 billion in May.

Microsoft Corp. says net income fell 22 percent in the latest quarter as it deferred revenue from the sale of its upcoming Windows 8 operating system to PC makers ? and as PC sales in general took a dive. The economic troubles in Europe also weighed on results, which missed Wall Street expectations.

Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. says it will cut nearly 1,800 jobs, about 15 percent of its workforce, by the end of the year in order to reduce spending in the face of dwindling sales.

Verizon Communications Inc. reports a blow-out number of new devices on its wireless network, boosted by the revolutionary Share Everything plan, which made it cheaper for households to add wireless service to non-phone devices like tablets and laptops. Verizon Wireless added a net 1.5 million devices to contract-based plans in the third quarter, more than it has in many years.

? Monday: Yahoo Inc. issued a third-quarter earnings report that topped analyst estimates. Yahoo's net revenue barely grew at a time when advertisers are spending more money marketing their products and services online. But the numbers were slightly better than analysts projected. It's the first quarter under new CEO Marissa Mayer.

? Tuesday: Facebook Inc. reports third-quarter results that inch past Wall Street's expectations, offering evidence that the company is making inroads in mobile advertising ? a longtime concern among investors.

Netflix Inc. cut its prediction of how many video streaming subscribers it would add this year after its third-quarter additions of 1.2 million came in at the low end of the company's forecasts.

Apple refreshes its lineup of Mac computers and introduces a 13-inch MacBook Pro model with a sharper, Retina display. It announces new iMacs for later this year, along with a faster, full-sized iPad tablet and a smaller one called the iPad Mini.

? Wednesday: Zynga Inc. reports stronger-than-expected revenue for the third quarter. The company, which has been trying to convince investors that it can revive growth, says it has signed a deal to offer online poker and casino games, played with real money, in the U.K. It plans to launch those games in the first half of 2013.

AT&T Inc. reports numbers showing the flow of customers to the carrier slowed further, putting the company far behind rival Verizon Wireless. AT&T added a net 151,000 new customers on contract-based plans from July through September, the lowest number for that period since at least 2003.

Coming up:

? Thursday: Apple Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp., Amazon.com Inc.

? Friday: Samsung Electronics Co., Comcast Corp.

? Nov. 1: Sony Corp., LinkedIn Corp.

? Nov. 8: Groupon Inc.

? Nov. 13: Cisco Systems Inc.

? Nov. 20: Hewlett-Packard Co., Dell Inc.

? Dec. 20: Research In Motion Ltd.

CBT: New UConn coach incredibly optimistic

NEW YORK, N.Y.?When Connecticut guard Ryan Boatright received a text from teammate DeAndre Daniels telling him that the longtime coach of their program, Jim Calhoun, had decided to retire, Boatright was in disbelief.

?I thought he was kidding. We were just shocked,? Boatright recalled to NBCSports.com at Big East media day.

?Since he hurt his hip [in a bicycle accident in August] he was there every day on crutches. We thought if somebody can be dedicated enough to be there with a screw in his hip, he?s definitely coming back.?

But the day that had loomed for years had finally come, the day Calhoun would hand over the keys of the Connecticut program to a successor was here, and at Big East media day, it had finally set in.

Reporters still gathered around the Connecticut table to ask questions, with this team coming off of a berth in the NCAA tournament, but the man answering the questions on behalf of the Huskies was different.

Gone was the often stubborn, sometimes grumpy old man with the New England accent and in his place was, by comparison, a young man and former player who spoke with the eloquence and optimism of a Sunday preacher, today speaking to a congregation of non-believers.

And rightfully so were these non-believers steadfast in their attitudes, considering the mass exodus of talent from Storrs after the NCAA slapped a postseason ban on the program, compounding that with the departure of the man who had long been the face of this perennial Big East contender.

But when 39-year-old Kevin Ollie speaks, people listen. In the face of difficult questions, Ollie?s answers toe the line between clich? and perfect sense, remarkably almost always shading toward the latter.

?I don?t see obstacles, I see opportunity,? Ollie said. ?It?s always been tough. I don?t see it like a lot of other people see it.

?Whether it?s seven months, seven years, or 27 years, I?m going to take it one day at a time and I?m not going to take it for granted.?

Ollie, a 13-year NBA veteran, takes over at his alma mater after serving as an assistant under Calhoun since 2010. Often seen as a player?s coach, Ollie has had to reshape his approach as the leader of the program.

?He?s always been the same person, character-wise,? Boatright said. ?But his coaching style, him being in a higher position, he has more to say and demands a lot more respect from everybody.?

?My first impression of him was like, ?Wow, this guy is super positive,?? junior guard Shabazz Napier said. ?He?s all about preaching the right words and preaching the right things.

?As long as we walk through that valley together, we all should be fine. That was he always says.?

According to Napier, players had a good sense of who Calhoun?s successor would be, with Ollie as the leading candidate.

Having played at Connecticut for four years, Ollie, having secured the job, sees this as an extension of a long Husky career that Calhoun promised him more than two decades ago.

?He told me the first time I came on a recruiting visit [as a player] that I?d stay in Connecticut. I was like ?No, I?m not,?? Ollie recalled. ?Now, 22 years later, I?m still in Connecticut.?

But behind the flowery language, a number of challenges reside.

Jeremy Lamb and Andre Drummond have both move on to the NBA. Alex Oriakhi, Roscoe Smith, and Michael Bradley are all at other schools, continuing their careers.

The postseason ban had some ripple effect in recruiting, landing the Huskies New York standout Omar Calhoun, but perhaps putting a damper on a more extensive recruiting haul.

Despite all of that, leave it to Ollie, the self-identifying Husky for more than half of his life, to bring a relentless optimism, exalting the program even in its most trying times. Beyond what he can accomplish on the court in 2012-13, this may be the greatest skill that he brings to the Connecticut sideline.

?This is a special place for me,? said Ollie. ?I?m always going to be a Connecticut Husky. This is the only brotherhood I know.?

Amen.

95% Argo

All Critics (193) | Top Critics (43) | Fresh (184) | Rotten (9)

'Argo' is one of the best movies of the year.

Argo has that solid, kick-the-tires feel of those studio films from the 70s that were about something but also entertained. Only it's as laugh outright amusing as it is sobering.

The movieland satire is laid on thick, but it's also deadly accurate. Schlock has never seemed so patriotic, and Arkin and Goodman have rarely been so good.

Argo is a rollicking yarn, easily the most cohesive and technically accomplished of Affleck's three films so far, but a part of me wishes the director hadn't cast himself in the lead role.

If nothing else, it proves that every so often, the CIA can pull something off - and that yes, Canadians are just about the nicest people on the planet.

The film is a whopper of a tale, one designed for Oscar nominations, Best Picture and Best Director among them.

Its politics are subtle, its performances are good, and its script is amazing.

There's "creating an intense, claustrophobic situation in a foreign locale" and there's "inciting unquestioning fear of 'the other'," and Argo pulls off the former far more often than it accidentally achieves the latter.

An ingeniously conceived thriller that's almost as much about our collective love of cinema as it is a tricky international incident.

Suspenseful movie based on a true incident; Ben Affleck's stock rises as an actor and director.

It not only confirms Affleck as one of the few A-listers to have made a credible transition to behind the camera, but that he's one of the most exciting mainstream directors around, full stop.

Affleck's seamless melding of intense thrills in Tehran and biting humour in California makes for a wholly satisfying movie.

The use of dramatic licence in the finale is too obvious but aside, Argo is a solid dramatic thriller that is informative, entertaining and gripping.

The film has heart and brains as well as balls, the screenplay delivering a clear and strong story without sacrificing either political or personal context

As a real life human drama, it is extraordinary. As a thrilling movie experience, it is unmissable

A thoroughly enjoyable, well put together movie that flies by, works well and largely succeeds at what it is trying to accomplish. Also one of those movies where it feels like "I should LOVE it - but don't."

It's okay to take a few liberties in the name of a good story

A funny trip to Hollywood and gripping escape from Tehran.

The scenes involving Goodman and Arkin are ribald and laugh-out-loud funny. You couldn't ask for two more expert actors to play these jaded movie veterans.

If there's one lesson to be gleaned from director Ben Affleck's relentlessly tense, painstakingly detailed Argo, it's that we should consider the possibility that our history has been manipulated more than many of us would care to admit.

Argo smacks of being another dreary Oscar contender but in actuality it's destined to be one of the fall's most purely enjoyable films.

Ar-go see them in action.

... a crackling good suspense thriller ...

I was literally in tears for parts of Argo, a purely physical reaction, not an emotional one, to deal with the tension... That isn't only some serious movie magic, it's a downright master class in suspense filmmaking from director Ben Affleck.

Under its own terms as an upscale mainstream thriller, it's a total success. This is classy moviemaking, from its well-observed performances to immaculate eye for period detail.

Google?s Research Shows Tablets Are For Games And Email, Mostly Used On Couch & In Bed

nexus 7Google just published a new research paper that delves into the details of how tablet owners use their devices. Using diaries, in-home interviews and contextual inquiry observations, the company's researchers observed how 33 U.S. tablet users interact with their devices. Some of the results are pretty straightforward (tablets are primarily used for personal purposes and to play games and check email), while others were a bit more surprising. Just as many participants used their tablets in their beds as on their couches, for example, and a surprisingly large number of tablet owners use their devices while cooking.

Superbad: 19 Ways to Fix a Stale Relationship | Greatist

Fighting all the time? Bored as hell (even with the sex)? Yup, we?ve been there. Relationship ruts are normal, and they can also be frustrating, isolating, and simply no fun. That?s why we?ve gathered together a big ?ol list of ways to bring the spark back to a fizzling relationship.

Sliding Into a Ditch ? The Need-to-Know

According to studies, couples? long-term satisfaction with each other and their relationship depends on a few key factors: thinking positively about each other, thinking about each other when they?re apart, acting affectionately toward each other, sharing new and challenging activities, and generally being happy in both their individual and shared lives. Oh, and having sex. Sounds great to us ? but the truth is virtually no relationship elicits feelings of pure bliss all the time.

It?s normal for people in long-term relationships to go through periods of lesser and greater intimacy; in fact, a decline in love and satisfaction after the doe-eyed period of a relationship is one of the most well-documented findings in Western marriage. Unfortunately, there?s no official definition or time frame for these relationship lulls, since they take different forms in different relationships. But general signs of being in a rut include fighting a lot, being bored, and lack of sexual interest or activity.

Kickin? a Rut in the Butt ? Your Action Plan

The good news is this: Since relationship ruts are a common phenomenon, people have put a lot of effort into finding ways to haul ourselves up out of them. Before trying to rejuvenate a relationship, remember there?s nothing wrong with losing a little passion now and again; it?s normal. The important thing is putting in the effort to sustain the relationship (provided a person wants to, of course) even during those periods of ?lesser intimacy.? On that note, Greatist presents a whole bunch of ways to bring a relationship back to peak satisfaction.

The Boredom Rut:
  • Try (exciting!) new activities. Doing things together is obviously key to maintaining a relationship ? but doing the same things all the time can lead to boredom, which is linked to decreased relationship quality. Stave off the blahs by trying new and exhilarating activities together (sky diving, taking a weekend trip, riding roller coasters, a couples? massage) ? doing so can enhance relationship satisfaction. And don?t be afraid to get goofy! Cook dinner naked, play ?the floor is lava,? practice your hide-and-go-seeking skills ? playing together can boost relationship happiness. Still at a loss for ideas? Try reflecting on exciting things you did together in the beginning of the relationship, and recreate those experiences.
  • Create a ?Couple?s Bucket List.? Work together to create a list of things you want to do together as a couple, without the ?excitement? requirement (cook dinner together once a week, go to a caf? or bookstore, grab produce at a farmer?s market). Then choose three items from the list and tackle them over the next three months. Check out websites like HowAboutWe and HotDateIdeas to help take the guesswork out of date-planning.
  • Kick screens out of the bedroom. Ditch the TV, laptops, tablets, and phones and pay attention to each other instead.
  • Make mini-dates. Too busy for a weekly date night? Try eating breakfast together, meeting for lunch, or designating 20 minutes every evening for talking with each other ? no distractions allowed.
The Fighting Rut:
  • Communicate about each other?s needs. Bottling it up can decrease personal emotional well-being and relationship satisfaction. Plus, when needs aren?t met in a relationship, the chances of infidelity and decreased satisfaction go up[][]. Open the bottle by sharing with your partner what you need from a relationship, whether it?s emotional support or splitting the grocery bill.
  • Name what you like about each other. Express appreciation through positive feedback (not just negative, which we?re prone to focus on in a ?fighting stage?) ? doing so can help both partners feel more attractive and confident. Challenge yourself to sit down and make a list of things you like about your partner, and then share them.
  • Work out together. Not only does a duel sweat-blasting session increase work out motivation, it can also improve couples? communication. Get started with these kick-ass partner exercises.
  • Talk through problems with people outside the relationship. It?s easy for couples to get stuck in the same old fight patterns behind closed blinds. We can benefit from hearing how other people deal with similar situations, because it can give us ideas for changing our own approach ? which will hopefully change the outcome of the conflict.
  • If you live together, share household chores evenly. Unequal distribution of chores is closely tied to rankled emotions. Bonus: Studies find that husbands and wives who do housework together have more sex.
  • Bounce back post-conflicts. Handling disagreements well ? by, for example, practicing forgiveness and not judging each other ? predicts more positive relationship emotions and satisfaction[]. It can help to remember that it?s less important to solve the conflict than it is to treat each other well even if there?s no solution to be found.
The Sexless Rut:
  • Take it online. Online sexual activity (like watching porn or having cyber-sex) alone and with a partner can increase both intimacy and the quality and frequency of physical sex[]. To keep things positive, seek out female-friendly porn or videos designed for couples.
  • Create a ?fantasy jar.? Write out as many fantasies as you can think of, each on a separate piece of paper; and have your partner do the same. Stick ?em all in a jar, then take turns picking out of the jar and acting out the fantasies.
  • Put sex on the schedule. Toss out the idea that spontaneous sex is the only way to have good sex. When we?re crazy busy, sex can be one of the first things to go by the wayside. But sex (especially simultaneous orgasms!) is also key to maintaining intimacy and relationship satisfaction ? so come up with a schedule for doing it, and stick to it[][].
  • Sext while you?re apart. It?ll build anticipation for fun times later in the day. Don?t want to use your work phone? Create ?For Your Eyes Only? email accounts to communicate saucy messages while you?re away.
  • Shake things up. If you?re used to long, slow sessions like the ones Sting has (not really) had, change up routines by having the occasional quickie or getting jiggy with it in unusual places.
  • Don?t forget non-sexual touch. Hugs, massages, an arm slipped around a waist ? these small actions can all boost feelings of affection.
The General Rut:
  • Don?t be embarrassed to seek external support. It?s probably not a great idea to propose couples therapy six weeks into a relationship. But for people in it for the long term, therapy is a reasonable (and sometimes necessary) choice.
  • Remember not all relationships are worth saving. Yes, relationships go through phases of lesser and greater closeness, but sometimes people just aren?t compatible. And emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse is never okay. ?Not sure if you should stick around? The best bet is to see a personal or couples therapist for their take on the relationship.
  • Work on yourself first. Relationship satisfaction is tied to personal life satisfaction, so the happier a person is in general, the happier they?re likely to be with a given relationship[]. Don?t rely on a partner to make your life great; work to make a great life regardless of whom you?re dating.

What earnings reports have revealed about ads

Companies that sell advertising have begun releasing their earnings reports for the latest quarter. Here are highlights of recent quarterly earnings reports from selected Internet and media companies and what they say about the state of spending on advertising.

? Oct. 15: Gannett Co. reports higher net income and revenue, helped by strong gains in political and Olympics-related advertising.

? Oct. 16: Advertising and marketing company Omnicom Group Inc. reports nearly flat earnings and revenue compared with a year earlier, as U.S. revenue grew but international revenue declined.

? Oct. 17: Television and digital media company Media General Inc. says its third-quarter net loss widened because of higher expenses, but revenue grew sharply thanks to an increase in political advertising and the Olympics.

? Oct. 18: Google Inc. says ad revenue rose 16 percent from the same time last year, the slowest pace in three years. The company's ad revenue had climbed by at least 21 percent in each of the previous 10 quarters. As has been the case for the past year, the average prices companies pay Google for ads appearing alongside search results also fell. The decelerating growth in ad revenue is likely being driven by the growing use of smartphones and tablet computers to access the Internet. The ads are more difficult to see on smartphones, in particular, so marketers aren't willing to pay as much.

Microsoft Corp. says revenue in its online services division grew 9 percent to $697 million, while operating loss fell 29 percent to $364 million. Online advertising revenue grew 15 percent to $655 million, with growth in search advertising revenue partly offset by lower revenue from display advertising. Microsoft says search revenue grew because of increased revenue per search and increased volumes.

Syria: Explosion hits Damascus, 10 killed

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) ? A powerful explosion hit Damascus on Sunday, killing 10 people on a day when the U.N. peace envoy was visiting the Syrian capital for talks with President Bashar Assad on the crisis.

An official speaking from the scene said an explosives-rigged taxi blew up 50 meters (yards) from the Bab Touma neighborhood's main police station.

He and another official said 17 had been wounded. Both insisted on anonymity because they are not allowed to make press statements.

Bab Touma, a popular attraction for shoppers, is inhabited mostly by members of Syria's Christian minority.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported 10 had died and dozens were wounded, adding that it was not immediately clear if the victims and the wounded were civilians or policemen.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene said he saw blood stains in the street and on the pavements. He said glass windows of several shops in the area were shattered and at least four cars were completely burnt.

No other details were immediately available. Islamist militant groups fighting alongside the rebels have sometimes claimed responsibility for bomb attacks against security targets in the capital.

In another party of the city, Lakhdar Brahimi, who represents the U.N. and the Arab League, met with Assad as part of his push for a cease-fire between rebels and government forces during the four-day Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, which begins Oct. 26.

He told reporters following a closed-door meeting that he had earlier met with unidentified Syrian opposition groups inside and outside the country to consult on his truce plan. He said he received "promises" but not a "commitment" from them to honor the cease-fire.

"There is a promise to stop fighting," he said, referring to the opposition. He noted that he "found an overwhelming response" from Assad's opponents to his cease-fire plan and that "all of them have said that it's a good idea which they support."

He declined to reveal Assad's response to his plan, viewed as a preliminary step toward a larger deal.

"We are hopeful that the Eid in Syria will be calm if not happy," he said, adding that he will return to Syria after the holiday. "If we find that this calm is actually achieved during the Eid and continued, we will try to build on it," he added.

"The Syrian people expect more than a truce for a few days and it is their right, but all we can promise is that we will work hard to achieve their aspirations," he said.

Brahimi arrived in Damascus Friday after a tour of Middle East capitals to drum up support for the cease-fire. A range of countries including Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Germany have backed the idea.

Brahimi met Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on Saturday. A Foreign Ministry statement released after the meeting did not mention the proposed truce, but said the two men discussed "objective and rational circumstances to stop the violence from any side in order to prepare for a comprehensive dialogue among the Syrians."

Syrian government forces and rebels have both agreed to and then promptly violated internationally brokered cease-fires in the past, and there is little indication that either is willing to stop fighting now.

Prehistoric Flamingo Nest, Eggs Discovered In Spain

By: Megan Gannon, News Editor
Published: 10/19/2012 08:31 AM EDT on LiveScience

A fossil bird's nest has been discovered in Spain, cradling at least five eggs that scientists believe belonged to an ancient flamingo some 18 million years ago.

The nest was found in a limestone block in the Ebro Basin in northeastern Spain. The researchers think it was abandoned and sunk to the bottom of a shallow, salty lake (which once also housed snakes, turtles and crocodiles) before being covered in mud and fossilizing during the early Miocene.

Scans of the eggshell fragments revealed microscopic features that closely match that of the modern flamingo's eggs. However, the type of nest the eggs sit in is much different from the type the birds build today.

Modern flamingos make muddy volcano-shaped nests with a single, large egg in each, but this ancient nest was made from twigs and leaves and holds several eggs. The researchers said the nest actually looks more like those of modern grebes, diving birds that build floating platform nests, which typically hold three to eight eggs and are anchored to the bottom of a lake with aquatic plants.

Though they have very different reproductive and nesting behaviors, flamingos and grebes are closely related. This new fossil then might indicate that the grebe-style nest is ancestral to this group of birds and that, over time, modern flamingos diverged, developing their volcano-shaped nests, the researchers said.

The team, led by paleontologist Gerald Grellet-Tinner, reported their findings Oct. 17 in the journal PLoS ONE. (Grellet-Tinner is affiliated with the National Council of Research and Technology in Argentina, The Field Museum, Chicago, and The Journey Museum in South Dakota.)

Many of us are aware of William Wyler?s classic film starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon. Or, we have at least read ? or at the very least heard of ? the novel by Emily Bronte: Heathcliff and Cathy, friends since childhood, but perhaps doomed by their circumstances and their love.

Now, Andrea Arnold has remade the often told tale, but has stripped it of romanticism and lushness, turning it raw and often difficult to watch. Solomon Glave is the young, feisty Heathcliff, taken into a complicated home to become a servant. This is the first black Heathcliff we?ve seen, and he is a strong presence when he is allowed to be. Shannon Beer plays an earthy young Cathy. Director Arnold uses jump cuts, odd angles, handheld cameras, imagining this story of the 1880?s as cruel and probably realistic. There are graphic animal killings and torment. By going for such realism, all the magic and passion is lost. 1/2 hat.

Today's Woman Review & Giveaway Blog ? Sears Canada Baby's ...

I have many very happy memories of shopping with my father at Sears Canada when I was a little girl. As I entered adulthood and? begun my own family I carried on that tradition of shopping at Sears, with my mother. It seemed Sears had everything I needed from maternity clothes, to baby clothes and then children clothes to see my children through those growing spurts.

Now the circle of life repeats itself and I am shopping at Sears with my daughter. As one of 22 Sears Canada? The Baby?s Room?Ambassadors I will be sharing with you my? in-store shopping experience as I shop for items for my granddaughter.? I will also be telling?you about exciting Sears news and promotions happening at Sears? The Baby?s Room over the next 6 months. You may even get a chance to partake in a? giveaway or two, so please stay tune.

?

sears-babys-room-logo-

First things first:? Did you know that the Sears Baby?s Room has been revamped to make shopping more enjoyable? They now offer a better assortment of products and Sears family-focused pricing and values.

The ?Everything Baby? sales event, which runs from now to October 25th capture the budget of new parents like my daughter while delivering quality products that baby will need.

Yesterday,? we received our? ?behind the scenes? guided tour and got the inside scoop on products? Sears carries from my local Sears manager Tracey.? Together, we browsed around all of Sears ? The Baby?s Room categories.

Tracey was more than eager to answer? questions and give recommendations on products based on her own personal experience as a mother or prior costumers shopping?experience.? Tracey even introduced us to new products and answered information on the benefits of those items.

My daughter and I were able to? check out the completely set up nurseries, so we could see how baby?s room could easily come together if we were to choose any of the nursery assembles. My daughter put a number of items on her baby registry and I will share a little more about that further down in this post.

The baby room

From baby basic essentials to strollers, and car seats,? Sears really does have almost everything baby needs. Right now both car seats and strollers are on sale for 15 % of at Sears Baby Room.? The car seats are also laid out by stages. This was very helpful to my daughter as she was a little overwhelmed as to which car seat she needs. Other significant changes I noticed was the stroller section.? Sears offers 4 different type of strollers:? Travel systems, convenient strollers,? double strollers and 3 wheel strollers. The aisles are wide enough that you can take any of the strollers for a test drive.

Car Seats

While it is true that women tend to do most of the shopping don?t think for a moment that Dad won?t enjoy shopping in the Sears Baby?s Room. My husband was most impressed with the different video monitors available at Sears.? When searching for a high-quality video baby monitor a new parent or even a grandparent might feel overwhelmed by all the choices.? Thankfully Tracey was there to answer all our questions.

Many doctors recommend humidifiers for the cold, dry months and Sears carries two brands of humidifiers. Tracy was able to answer my questions regarding the difference between KidZone and? Crane. I loved how the display was set up of each humidifier they carried allowing you to see what they looked like outside of the box.

At Sears baby room customers can easily find not only the basics, but also trend fashions? for baby that deliver dependable quality at unbeatable prices. Need to jump-start your holiday shopping for the kids on your list or are you just looking to get the little ones an outfit that?s presentable for the holiday family photo?? Look no further than Sears Baby Room. From rompers, baby sacks, adorable dresses and two-piece sets, Sears offers some of the cutest clothes from brand names you can trust that are perfect for the holiday and winter season.? They also have a large selection of snowsuits and outwear in, with more winter-wear coming in over the nest few weeks.

Holiday shopping for baby toys? is quick and easy thanks to a selection of Lamaze toys. Lamaze toys help your baby to develop his motor skills or guide your baby through ?doing and moving.? I could not believe all the Lamaze toys Sears have available. THey have quite a large collection.

With our check list in hand we took advantage of the??Everything Baby? sales event, and did some shopping? for baby. One of the products I wanted wasn?t stocked, but Tracey? told me that she?d be happy to order it in for me.

We decided to buy an item from the baby essential checklist, which we printed out from Sears prior to leaving home. We also bough a couple of? outfits, Sears babya pair of baby shoes and the mute button pacifier that my husband just had to have.

The Safety 1st Complete Healthcare Kit combines all of the essentials home infant health care items neatly in a zippered travel case.? My daughter chose a cute outfit from the mix and match rack where you can match any top with bottom for just $13.97.? From the? clearance rack she chose a cute spring dress that will be perfect for Easter photos. Can you believe that we bought all this for $50?

Are you expecting? While at Sears why not use the baby gift registry kiosk located in most Sears retail stores. Once you?re Sears baby registryregistered, your list is available online and on all of our in-store kiosks nationwide. Nothing could be easier for those who want to purchase you a gift for an upcoming shower or new arrival gift. Tracey was very helpful in getting us all set up at the kiosk and my daughter even received a bag of goodies for registering. To add items in the store,? we printed out the? registry with bar code at the kiosk and Tracey brought us? a scanner. Then my daughter simply scanned the items she would like for baby.

When friends and family are ready to purchase a baby gift, they go to Sears print a copy of the registry from the kiosk and find the item that they want to purchase. As a first time mom,? all the things baby needs can be overwhelming, but thankfully, Sears is there to make those decisions much easier with The Baby?s Room. Overall, both my daughter and I had a fun afternoon together shopping and touring Sears.? We were both truly impressed with the changes made in the baby section at Sears. I invite you to visit The Baby?s Room at a Sears store near you or visit online? sears.ca/thebabysroom and find out what is new.? Also, don?t forget about the ?Everything Baby? sales event, which runs from now to October 25th.
