We all hear the complaints about a foster care system that separates siblings and moves children time and again with, seemingly, little or no thought.?The truth, however, is most often very different.?Here?s a story that shines light on a mom who adopted her foster daughters and their sibling?
Jonetta Smith has been a foster parent with Buckner Foster Care in Beaumont since 2010. Ms. Smith began her journey simply wanting to make a difference in the life of a child through foster care. Soon after being licensed, she accepted placement of two precious little girls, Zoe and Amanda.
After approximately one year she realized that she wanted to adopt the sisters, but they had a brother, Zane, who lived in another foster home. Without hesitation, Ms. Smith began asking questions about how she could adopt Zane as well.
She made changes to her home in order to accommodate him. Through her love and commitment, she was determined to make sure these siblings stayed together. Ms. Smith?s journey was difficult while CPS worked on termination, and Buckner was there to support her every step of the way.
Ms. Smith finally adopted all three siblings in May 2012. She was so excited to give the children a forever home where they could grow up together. The children are blessed with a loving, caring family.? They are very involved in activities within their community. Zane plays baseball and his sisters love to dance. The children now have a bright future all because of the love and commitment of their adoptive mother who was not afraid to open both her heart and her home when they needed someone most.?
